Maackia Spurtle

Now we are deep into autumn our thoughts turn toward porridge for breakfast and there's no better way to cook porridge than with a spurtle.

This lovely hand-turned spurtle is in Maackia wood. This unusual wood comes from a local arboretum and features a really beautiful grain pattern

The spurtle is a wooden kitchen tool of Scottish origin used for stirring primarily porridge but can be used for anything hot. The tapering shape means the porridge can be stirred without lumps forming.

This spurtle is approximately 30cm long and 3cm wide at its widest point and features a handy leather hanging strap. Finished in cold-pressed linseed oil and beeswax.
